An iconic 80s group has been slammed by fans after confirming they would play Donald Trump's inauguration. Confirming they had accepted an invitation to the inauguration, the band were slammed by fans who labelled the upcoming gig "incredibly disappointing." In a now viral post to their Facebook page, the Village People shared their decision to play at the ceremony where Donald Trump will take the oath of office to become President of the United States.

The Village People's hit song, 'YMCA,' had been used frequently on the Trump campaign trail and in his advertising through the presidential election campaign. Some artists, like Elton John, ABBA, and Neil Young, refused to allow their work to be used in association with Trump or his campaign.

But the Village People has said they will "participate in inaugural activities" as they believe music can be "performed without regard to politics." A full statement from the group reads: "We are announcing today that VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump's campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump.

"We know this wont make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics. Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.
