Ellie Taylor has built an impressive TV career, from acting in shows like Ted Lasso to competing on Strictly Come Dancing. Now, though, she has taken on her latest challenge in the shape of Gladiators: Celebrity Special on New Year’s Day. She is battling it out against fellow stars, Rob Beckett, Joel Dommett, and Louise Minchin, to be named champion of the BBC show.
Ellie, who gave birth to her second child in November 2023, previously said Gladiators appealed as she wanted to show mothers with babies that ‘we can do hard things.’. As the comedian bravely tackles the Eliminator challenge on the physically and mentally draining TV show, here is everything you need to know about her career and family life.
Ellie Taylor began her career as a stand-up comedian after appearing on ITV’s Show Me The Funny in 2011. The 41-year-old has gone on to write and perform five stand-up comedy shows, one of which, Cravings, streamed on Netflix as part of Comedians of the World.
Ellie is known as a regular on the BBC’s Mock The Week, The Mash Report and Live at the Apollo, Late Night Mash on Dave, and, most recently, as a co-host on Channel 4’s The Great Pottery Throw Down. She also starred in Apple TV’s multi-award-winning comedy series Ted Lasso.
Ellie’s debut book, My Child and Other Mistakes, became a Sunday Times bestseller in 2021. In 2022, Ellie was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, making it to week 10 of the competition with partner Johannes Radebe. The following year, the TV star replaced Stacey Solomon as co-host of Bake Off: The Professionals.
