KATIE BOULTER helped to eliminate her FIANCE from the United Cup. Britain dumped hosts Australia from the mixed-team competition to make the quarter-finals against Iga Swiatek’s Poland. Boulter began the new year with a 6-2 6-1 win in 70 minutes over Australian Olivia Gadecki in Sydney.

Her fella, Aussie Alex de Minaur, won the next singles against Billy Harris 6-2 6-1 and was involved in a doubles rubber win. Those results meant GB lost the tie 2-1 and all three teams finished on the same points. But the mathematics of GB’s opening 2-1 success over Argentina meant they topped Group F because they had claimed the most SETS of the three — and the Aussies were out.

Boulter, 28, said: “I’ve been trying to avoid all the stats on this. “But we were at dinner with Laura Robson last night and she told me I had to win in straight sets. I was feeling the pressure.”. Boulter and De Minour announced their engagement shortly before Christmas.
