James Corden emotionally reveals the significance of Gavin and Stacey’s ‘last line’

With just days until the long-awaited Gavin and Stacey Christmas special airs on BBC, it seems fitting that James Corden has shared an emotional detail with us. The comedy series first hit screens in 2007 and followed Mathew Horne’s Gavin Shipman and Joanna Page’s Stacey West relationship as their families – from Essex and Barry Island– got to know each other.
The show, which also starred creators Ruth Jones and James Corden as Nessa and Smithy, left fans with a cliffhanger with an unanswered proposal during the 2019 Christmas special. Now, we are just days from all your questions being answered, with James sitting down on The Graham Norton Show to share what’s to come and even making an emotional admission about the episode’s last lines.
Like all of us, the talk show host was curious to hear all the details ahead of the episode’s airing date and asked James: ‘What was it like at the end? Did it feel like the end? Were you all crying? Was it really emotional, or is it going to hit you later on that it’s over?’.
The former US-based star host quickly replied: ‘It was a very, very special day. We really kind of scheduled the show so that the very last line that we’ll ever hear in the episode is the last thing we shot.’.
