Jamie Carragher heaped praise on Myles Lewis-Skelly after the 18-year-old scored his first Arsenal goal in their 5-1 in over Man City at the Emirates. The Hale End graduate netted the Gunners' third of the evening and became their fourth-youngest goalscorer in Premier League history. After debuting at the end of September, minutes were scarce for Lewis-Skelly until December, when Mikel Arteta slowly phased him into the squad.

He has since become a frequent starter, featuring in all but one of Arsenal's eight games in January. And Carragher was in awe of the youngster's performance against City on Sunday, comparing him to some England superstars, including Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney. 'He's got a football arrogance,' the Liverpool legend said. 'He's 18. The only person that comes to mind is Wayne Rooney. You know what it's like, they feel like "I'm the man on this football.".

'I think when you see a young player burst onto the scene, they always have that impact, a big goal, a game we remember. A lot of the great players do. 'You think of Michael Owen as a young player, or Wayne Rooney or Jude Bellingham. They always have those moments early on in their career and they're destined for stardom. 'This kid looks like an absolute superstar and he's got that presence and personality on a football pitch at 18 that you rarely see.'.

Lewis-Skelly appeared to rub salt in City's wounds as he mocked Erling Haaland by performing his trademark celebration, where the Norwegian sits on the floor in a meditative pose. This came after the Arsenal youngster had clashed with Haaland after the Gunners had drawn 2-2 with City at the Etihad in September. After seeing Haaland and Gabriel face off, Lewis-Skelly attempted to intervene and back up his team-mate.

Haaland reacted to Lewis-Skelly's arrival on the scene by dismissively gesturing for him to go away. Lewis-Skelly appeared to mock Erling Haaland's celebration after scoring against City. Multiple fans on social media were convinced that Haaland also said to Lewis-Skelly 'Who the f*** are you' after seeing footage of the spat.

Lewis-Skelly was given a standing ovation after being withdrawn by Arteta in the 90th minute on Sunday. His goal, where he cut inside before firing a shot which Stefan Ortega could only parry in off the post, put Arsenal 3-1 up as they produced a superb performance in a 5-1 victory. Martin Odegaard put the hosts ahead early on after capitalising on an error by Manuel Akanji, before Haaland briefly restored parity in the second half.
