Jermaine Jenas is set to make a controversial return to talkSPORT on Sunday with some staff refusing to work with him, according to reports. The former footballer and The One Show presenter hasn’t worked as a pundit for the sports radio station since the day he was sacked by the BBC. Jenas, married with four kids, lost his BBC job in August for inappropriate behaviour after sending explicit texts to two female employees.

‘I have let myself down, my family, friends and colleagues down, and I owe everyone an apology – especially the women with whom I was messaging,’ Jenas told The Sun after his BBC sacking was announced. The 41-year-old was also accused of sexually pursuing a female make-up artist during his time as a pundit for BT Sport in 2017. Jenas made a surprise TV return in October, working as a football pundit for Malaysian broadcaster Stadium Astro for Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

TalkSPORT are now plotting for Jenas’ return, with plans for him to cover his former side Tottenham’s FA Cup fourth-round match at Aston Villa this weekend, the Daily Mail have reported. The plans have sparked huge controversy internally, with some talkSPORT staff members outright refusing to work with Jenas and others angered by a lack of consultation over the decision to bring back the ex-midfielder.
TalkSPORT said there were no plans for Jenas to appear again in the near future after his departure from the BBC. ‘I did nothing illegal – these were inappropriate messages between two consenting adults,’ Jenas told The Sun when he was sacked by the BBC. ‘I think it would be fair to say I have a problem. I know I self-sabotage and have a self-destructive streak when it comes to my relationship especially, and I know I need help. And I am getting help.’.
He continued to say he’d made ‘a lot of mistakes’ and had booked in for therapy to ‘try and address’ his ‘issues’ which mean he is ‘hurting the people [he] love[s]’. ‘I do consider it cheating, yes, although nothing physical ever happened,’ he added.
