Every Christmas Day, Kate Middleton gifts us with another fashion moment, and this year is no different. As is tradition, the Royal Family gathered together for the church service at St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, Norfolk. Kate opted for an elegant ensemble, wearing a long green Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat, in a dark forest green hue. Alexander McQueen is a favourite of the Princess’, who regularly wears the designer’s pieces for big occasions.
It’s likely that the green colour is bespoke, although a camel version of the coat has previously been available for £2990. Kate accessorised the look with a tartan scarf and heeled black boots, but it’s her choice of hat – a beret by Gina Foster – that has royal watchers talking.
The hat has been a long-time staple in her wardrobe. Kate previously wore it at a St Patrick’s Day parade in 2014. But body language expert Judi James says Kate’s decision to wear the hat at the end of a challenging year for the Royal Family, following her and King Charles’s cancer diagnoses, revealed the Princess’s true feelings about returning to the spotlight this Christmas.
Judi told the Mirror: ‘Kate’s small beret allowed a full view of her face, which in turn showed off that authentic, congruent, dimpled smile rather than her perfect royal version.’. Judi added that Kate’s eye contact with well-wishers and her ‘energetic pace’ as she walked hand in hand with her youngest child, Prince Louis, showed how proud she was to be out with her family again.
