Five years on from the release of Chromatica, Lady Gaga has confirmed the release date for her hotly anticipated seventh album, Mayhem. The record – which will feature recent single Disease and last August’s Bruno Mars collaboration Die With A Smile – will finally arrive on March 7.
Gaga has said: “The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.”. She teased that it’s like “reassembling a shattered mirror – even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way”.
With a new Gaga era at last upon us, let’s take a look at the singer-songwriter and actress’s chart history in the UK over the years. Breathing a new life into pop music with her eccentric, dance-ready electropop, Gaga’s debut album, The Fame, catapulted her to international fame in 2008 and has sold 3.4 million units in the UK. Since then, she’s explored darker electronic music with 2011’s Born This Way, teamed up with the late Tony Bennett for jazz albums Cheek to Cheek and Love for Sale. She even tried her hand at country with 2016’s Joanne.
In recent years, the singer - real name Stefani Germanotta - has become an involved in the film industry. Her contributions to the soundtrack for 2018’s A Star Is Born won her an Academy Award, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, while she’s also created music for Top Gun: Maverick and Joker: Folie à Deux.
Collaborative. Soundtrack albums. From Bad Romance to Rain On Me, the 38-year-old’s music has defined pop music for a generation. As well as racking up 15 top ten hits on the UK charts, six of those reaching number one, she has collaborated with the likes of Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande and Beyoncé.
