Liverpool continue on their mission to compete on all fronts this week. After securing their place in the Champions League last-16 little over a week ago, the Reds have the task of overcoming a first-leg deficit to overcome Tottenham to make the Carabao Cup final. An FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle awaits following that assignment. Arne Slot and co chose not to strengthen their hand for an intense end to the season. There appears to be no doubts about their decision at Anfield however.
Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news surrounding the club. Liverpool boss Arne Slot has no worries about the Reds' lack of incoming transfer activity, and his lack of fluster appears to come from his faith in the quality already at his disposal. The head coach highlighted his side's lack of injury issues as a key reason the club have not had to delve into the market. "Maybe there aren't many managers with as good as squad as I have?" said Slot on Wednesday. "The players have shown the trust we have in them was correct.
"We don't have many injuries, long-term injuries. We did have some with Alisson, Jota, others but other than Trent they are all ready today so no reason to add to the team unless there's a chance in the market. We saw that with the goalkeeper we brought in.". Liverpool fave a side who did strengthen during the winter window however. Spurs' trip to Anfield will see them able to utilise new signings Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso.
Ange Postecoglou has revealed both are available to make their debuts in the Carabao Cup clash, with Danso seeminly contending for a start. "Kevin [Danso] and Mathys [Tel] are both available, have trained and cleared to play, so they're all good," said the Lilywhites boss. Asked whether Danso will start against Liverpool, Postecoglou added: “We'll see. There is another big game three days later. Whether he starts or comes on, we'll see.”.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Liverpool's game against Totten ham but could return in time to face Plymouth Argyle, after suffering an injury against Bournemouth The full-back had to leave the field in the win over the Cherries but has already returned to the grass as part of his rehabilitation. It remains to be seen if Alexander-Arnold can return for the FA Cup, as he is currently not training with the team. Slot said: “He is going to miss the game tomorrow and we have to see if he is able to play on Sunday.
"What we do know is he is not available to play tomorrow. I think you saw he left the pitch with a bit of a pain in his leg so that’s why he misses the game tomorrow. “But he’s already on the pitch, not with the team but with the rehab coach so let’s see how long it’s going to take but he’s not going to be available tomorrow.”.
