Manchester United have reportedly made contract with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens, as they look to win the race for his signature. The 20-year-old Englishman had spells with Reading and Manchester City in his early career before moving to Dortmund in 2020.
He has since become a regular in the first team, making his Bundesliga debut in April 2022. This season so far the winger has made 15 starts in the German top flight and six more in the Champions League, scoring 11 goals across those competitions. The England Under-21 international remains under contract with Dortmund until 2028, but Sky Sports report that he is keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.
The report states that Manchester United have ‘contacted those around him’ as they make early work on a move. There is also interest in the youngster from Liverpool and Chelsea, while Arsenal have been lined with him in the past, but the Red Devils are hoping to get ahead of the competition before what could be a summer transfer battle.
Dortmund do not intend to let their latest young English star leave cheaply, with the German giants wanting €100m (£83.8m) for his signature. Whether they will get that figure is yet to be seen as the Sky Sports report states that Gittens will be sold to the highest bidder, but Dortmund are expecting those bids to be very big.
Dortmund’s managing director Carsten Cramer played down an exit for Gittens in the near future, speaking last month, he said: ‘It is our ambition to keep him playing for us for as long as possible. It is not the aim to gain as much money as soon as possible. We want to keep him.’.
