Manchester United are set to headline the Premier League Summer Series in the United States this year, Mail Sport can exclusively reveal. We understand Premier League chiefs are on the verge of securing the flagship addition of United for the first time as part of one of their official pre-season schedules.

The Old Trafford club were not involved in the inaugural Summer Series on the US East Coast in 2023, and they never took part in nine iterations of the Asia Trophy between 2003 and 2019. United have preferred to arrange their own summer tours given their commercial pull, so this is being viewed as a coup for the Premier League, who will organise commercial events around the mini tournament.

Other participants are still to be confirmed and there is no shortage of interest. The League will likely aim for six teams, but this is subject to change. Bournemouth are one of those in talks about joining this year’s roster. Details in terms of host venues are also being finalised. The 2023 edition - won by Chelsea - saw games played in Atlanta, New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia and Washington D.C, and we understand the East Coast will again be the focus of the series.

But United will as good as guarantee sold-out stadiums wherever they play and, for manager Ruben Amorim, it will be an insight into the global reach of the club during his first pre-season in charge, should he remain as boss beyond this campaign. It could be that any new signings also make their debut in the States, with the Summer Series likely to kick off towards the end of July.
