Thomas Gravesen believes Christian Eriksen’s time at Manchester United is ‘100 per cent over’ and fears for the midfielder’s career once he leaves Old Trafford. The 32-year-old is currently in his third season at United having joined on a free transfer in July 2022 and could leave as a free agent this summer when his contract expires. Eriksen has been used sparingly by Ruben Amorim, starting just five games for United since the Portuguese took over as manager in November.

Former Everton, Real Madrid and Denmark midfielder Gravesen says he is concerned over Eriksen’s future and says the midfielder’s progress at United has been ‘downward’. ‘It’s 100 per cent over for Christian Eriksen at Manchester United this summer, and I also fear that his career is over,’ Gravesen told Tipsbladet. ‘Where is he going to go? Where is he going to go and earn 60 million kroner a year? I have a hard time seeing that.
‘He has probably earned the money he should, but I think that the development that Christian has been in the last few years is downward. ‘It is sad to see the situation that Christian Eriksen is in. He is one of the players in Denmark who has given us the most. He has shone and been our best man, so it is sad if his career ends like this.’. Speaking last month after United knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup, former Chelsea and Scotland midfielder, Pat Nevin, raised concerned over Eriksen’s physical capability in Amorim’s system.
‘Fabulous pros and world-class players in their time, neither Casemiro nor Christian Eriksen made it on to the field for a minute. Sadly, the now lacklustre Marcus Rashford has to be added to this group,’ Nevin told BBC Sport. ‘They do not appear to have the ‘legs’ needed for the top echelons and the manager has made his decision. Eriksen can still play a bit part, maybe as one of the two players behind the striker now and again but they are clearly not the future for this coach.
‘Harsh, maybe even vicious, Amorim outwardly seems a kindly and caring sort, although on this occasion he has made the tough decisions that the heartless world of football has known were needed for quite some time.’.
