Mitch Marsh has been dropped for the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Series. The struggling all-rounder has failed to impress in the opening four Tests, making scores of 9, 5, 4, 2 and 0 for a combined tally of 20 runs during the series. Marsh has notably been suffering with a back issue after the Perth Test, which has also meant he has bowled just 13 overs across the past three tests, failing to pick up a wicket.
Pat Cummins said that selectors had 'felt like it was time for a freshen up' before adding he felt for his team-mate. 'It's a shame for Mitchy, because he knows how much he brings to the team,' the Australia captain said, adding that the all-rounder 'hasn't got the runs and wickets Marsh would have liked.'.
'He (was) totally understanding,' Cummins continued. 'He knows he hasn’t scored the runs or wickets that he would have liked, so that makes you vulnerable.'. Mitch Marsh has issued a classy response to an Australian debutant after he was dropped for the final Test against Sydney.
The All-rounder has struggled for both runs and wickets, having taken 20 runs during the series. Cummins (right) said that the exclusion did not mean Marsh would make a return to the Test side, with the captain stating he will make a 'freshen up' and 'return to the side'.
In his place, Australia have called upon Tassie star Beau Webster, who will make his Test debut this weekend, becoming the third player to do so during this series, after Nathan McSweeney and Sam Konstas. There is a lot of excitement around Webster's call-up following his epic season with Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield last year.
