As Grace Dent becomes Gregg Wallace's official MasterChef replacement, we take a look at her unusual life off-screen. She confirmed that she would be joining John Torode after news last month that Gregg will step away from the role amid an external review into historical allegations of misconduct. She said: “I’ve been watching MasterChef since I was a girl sitting with my dad on the sofa. My whole family watches it. It’s all about uncovering and championing talent – and to have ended up in this position, is more than a dream to me.
“I’m so excited that I can’t eat, which is severely detrimental to a restaurant critic. I feel very lucky to be stepping in for the next Celebrity MasterChef. I can’t wait to meet the fresh celebrity faces for 2025.”. Just a year ago, the food critic shocked I'm A Celebrity fans by suddenly quitting the show on medical grounds just over a week after entering the jungle. The 51-year-old joined the star-studded line-up, including the likes of Nigel Farage and Fred Sirieix, Down Under for a series of gruelling challenges and daring stunts.
Grace joining the show in the first place had left many people confused, as she had previously ridiculed the ITV show, calling it "a puerile venture into starvation, televised constipation, and animal cruelty, abbreviated by ads for Iceland £1 curries." She even confessed to closing her blinds tightly shut to avoid any association with the show's theme tune, fearing it would bring down the value of her property.
