There are a number of major high street chains keeping their doors closed this New Year's Day. The first bank holiday of the year is coming and normally shops like to keep their doors open to the public. However, this year a number of shops have decided to close to give their staff more time with their loved ones over the holiday. To help those who may fancy venturing out on the first day of the year, the Mirror has rounded up a list of all retailers and supermarkets which are planning on keeping their stores closed this New Year's Day.

Aldi confirmed back in September that its over 1,000 stores will once again be closed on both Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and on New Year's Day this festive season. Aldi is known for remaining closed on the Christmas bank holidays, so its staff can rest over the festive period. Stores will be open until 6pm on New Year's Eve and normal opening hours will be introduced from January 2.

In October, Poundland confirmed that it would keep its stores closed on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day as a thank you for their staff's hard work over the last year. Normal opening hours will resume on Thursday, January 2. Lidl stores were closed over Christmas like Aldi and re-opened on December 27. Stores will also be closed on New Year's Day with the sites shutting a littler earlier at 6pm on New Year's Eve. Once again, normal opening hours will be brought back from January 2.

Next has more than 450 stores across the UK and is known for selling everything from clothing to homeware. Anyone hoping to visit a store today, New Year’s Eve, should know that most sites will open at reduced hours, from 9am to 5pm. All stores will remain closed on January 1.
