The Western Sydney rugby league fraternity has been left shattered after the sudden death of popular local player Jake Rowe, with former Penrith Panthers star Mark Geyer leading the tributes. Rowe was a much-loved player for the St Clair Comets, a highly successful rugby league club in the Penrith region west of Sydney.
He died suddenly on Australia Day aged just 32. There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. 'Words can not express the sadness that is felt within the STC family today. Jake Rowe passed away last night and our deepest sympathy and condolences are with Stephen, Sharyn and Tori and both families at this time. RIP Jake,' the club posted.
NSW Police said that Rowe's passing was being treated as non-suspicious but as with any unexplained death, a report will be prepared for the Coroner. NRL legend Mark Geyer, who played 135 games for the Penrith Panthers, said the shocking death hit too close to home.
