The epic neo-noir sci-fi film Blade Runner 2049 is now available for free streaming, allowing fans to enjoy the 2017 hit from the comfort of their own homes. The movie can be viewed on BBC iPlayer, but will only be available on the platform for another 29 days.

Serving as a sequel to the original 1982 Blade Runner film, it stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in leading roles. The supporting cast boasts names like Ana de Armas, Edward James Olmos, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James and Jared Leto.

Harrison and Edward reprise their roles as Rick Deckard and Gaff from the first film. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, who has since directed box office hits Dune and Dune: Part Two, the film follows K, a Blade Runner played by Ryan Gosling, who uncovers a secret that could destabilise society and alter the course of civilisation.

Surrey Live reports the 2017 film was met with widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike, praised for its performances, direction, cinematography and faithfulness to the original film. It bagged numerous awards including Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects, and eight BAFTAs including Best Cinematography and Best Special Visual Effects.

The 'visually stunning' flick boasts an impressive 8.0 rating on IMDb, based on over 700,000 votes, and has garnered a solid 88% Tomatometer rating alongside an 89% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Over the years, critics have showered the film with accolades, with one remarking: "Much like its predecessor, 2049 is a methodically structured puzzle, solved through slow but persistent drips of revelation.".
