Party guest left horrified after host demands 'extortionate' price to attend birthday celebration

The cost of attending birthday celebrations can really add up - but one person's party has pushed guests to the limit by charging invitees $499 to attend with any plus-ones priced at $250. In a post shared to the Reddit, the stunned guest showed a picture of the invite - which was texted to the recipient's phone.

It stated that the celebrations would take place on a Monday, February 3, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, writing that 'friends' will be charged $499, while 'guests' of friends will be $250. 'Friend got elected for city council and purchased a new home and somehow this makes sense to her,' they wrote in the post.

In a follow up comment, the invitee explained that their partner had supported the host throughout their campaign by reserving private spaces of his establishment to tend to their private events and meetings. 'They were transparent and organized by the county political party organization (that my partner is very much involved in),' they assured readers.

The disgruntled invitee added that the friend had asked their partner to lend them his space once again for the birthday event, but when the owner asked where the contributions would be going, they declined to disclose - so he decided not to offer his place.

'I posted this after receiving the invitation, it's completely wrong but whatever. It's happening, now it's just shaking our heads and making a joke of the whole thing because of how ridiculous it is,' they wrote.
