Fans voiced their fury after noticing that Prime Video seems to have cut a vital scene from a beloved Christmas movie. Hit 1946 film ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is currently available to watch on the streaming service, with plenty of people adding the Hollywood classic to their festive roster. The film centres around George Bailey - played by James Stewart - who becomes suicidal after questioning the success and impact of his life. On Christmas Eve, guardian angel Clarence Odbody appears to show George the value of his life and save him from his thoughts.

In the version on Prime Video, however, a vital scene appears to be missing. The guardian angel takes George to a version of the world in which he’s never existed, revealing that his hometown is now called Pottersville, owned by the evil Henry Potter. With Potter in charge the town is now sinful and dangerous, and George’s family has struggled greatly.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, many fans of the film said that the Pottersville scene - although dark and upsetting - was vital to the plotline. They slammed Prime Video for reportedly cutting it, claiming that ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ lost all its meaning due to the dramatic edit.

One person blasted: “If you want to know what’s wrong with the world, Prime Video has an ‘abridged’ version of It’s a Wonderful Life that removes THE ENTIRE POTTERSVILLE SCENE where George sees life if he wasn’t born. That’s all that abridged. The best most crucial part of the movie. Just. Wow.”.
