A royal princess has welcomed her first daughter. Princess Sofia of Sweden, who found fame posing topless for the Swedish lads mag Slitz as well as a string of TV appearances before marrying into royalty. The star turned princess met Prince Carl Philip of Sweden in 2010 through a mutual friend after Sofia returned to Sweden from New York. Sofia and Prince Carol announced their engagement in June 2014 and married in June 2015.
Currently fourth-in-line to the Swedish throne, behind his sister, Crown Princess Victoria, his niece and goddaughter Princess Estelle and his nephew, Prince Oscar, Carl and Sofia's new daughter is now eighth in line to the throne. In a statement, the Swedish Royal Court confirmed that Princess Sofia gave birth to her fourth child earlier today. They said: "Today, Friday 7th February at 1.10 p.m., HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a daughter at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm.
"The baby weighs 3645 grams and is 49 centimetres long. Prince Carl Philip was present at Danderyd Hospital throughout the birth." The palace are yet to share a picture and the name of the new royal. Despite her older brothers holding the title, His Royal Highness, she will not be known as Her Royal Highness due to an agreement made by King Carl XVI Gustaf in 2019. Sofia announced in September that she was expecting her fourth child while attending the wedding of Princess Martha Louise of Norway and Durek Verrett. Last year, she spoke of scaling things back on lavish ahead of her 40th birthday in December last year due to the fact she was pregnant.
Speaking to Vogue Scandinavia, she also reflected on dreaming of a family, admitting it was her "biggest goal in life." She told the outlet: "Both me and my husband come from a family of five – with three kids – so we thought that that would be a good number, and we felt quite satisfied with that. But, gratefully, there's a bonus on the way. We feel very humble and grateful. It was maybe not in the plan, but now we are very, very excited. Especially the kids.".
Fans have taken to social media to congratulate the royal couple on their news, with one writing: "Huge congratulations to Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia on welcoming their 4th child." A second penned: "Congratulations to TRH Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden, Duke and Duchess of Värmland on the birth of their daughter.". "Finally a daughter!! Congratulations to Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia," gushed a third. Meanwhile, a fourth went on to write: "Awww, Princess Sofia had a little Princess. I am so happy for the Family!" Their fourth child comes after Sofia explained that she still had many aspirations for the future.
She told Vogue: "I still have a lot of things I want to learn, I want to have new experiences and do new projects and of course go through life with my kids and the stages they are in. I have a life that I’m very grateful for, I have a family that I’m very grateful for, I actually feel I'm in the best place I've ever been in.". Like this story?
