Rangers have won their appeal against the controversial red card shown to Mohamed Diomande in the closing moments of their victory over Dundee United on Sunday. The Ivorian midfielder was dismissed by match referee Nick Walsh in the closing stages of the visitors’ 3-1 win at Tannadice for raising his hands in an altercation with the Tangerines’ Kevin Holt.

Walsh was asked to review his decision on the pitch-side monitor by VAR Don Robertson, but opted to stand by his position after watching the incident several times. The SFA provided guidance to broadcasters for the reasons why the decision was upheld, saying: ‘Nick Walsh has taken the view that there was a deliberate swing of the arm towards the face of an opponent, which was not negligible, and therefore constitutes violent conduct.’.

Speaking after the game, however, Rangers manager Philippe Clement described the decision as ‘incredible’ and confirmed that club would submit a fast-track appeal to the SFA. ‘Dio gets pushed away,’ Clement insisted. ‘There is a small reaction with his hand without touching the opponent - nothing.

I saw much worse things with yellow cards given.’.
