Tottenham's move for Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel could be beneficial in more ways than one for the side - with Arsenal left with few options this window. Ange Postecoglou's side are closing in on the loan signing of Tel, who previously rejected a move to north London after the clubs had agreed a deal. The Frenchman has since performed a shock U-turn in his stance and will finalise his loan move to Tottenham in the final hours of deadline day.

As a result, it means that any incomings at rivals Arsenal is extremely unlikely - given the fact they had also been interested in a potential move for Tel. The Gunners, along with Manchester United, were among a number of English clubs keeping tabs on the 19-year-old's situation after he initially rejected Spurs. Now, with Tel heading to Tottenham, a new forward heading to Arsenal appears unlikely. A loan move could still be sanctioned in time but remains doubtful.

In the summer window, Arsenal got a loan deal for Raheem Sterling over the line however a repeat of that looks unlikely. Spurs technical director Johan Lange is understood to have travelled to Munich to watch Tel play for Bayern in their Champions League victory against Slovan Bratislava and began negotiations before returning to the UK.

Playing time had been criticial in Tel's decision making, having tumbled down the pecking order under Vincent Kompany in Bavaria this season. Tel has scored 16 goals in his 83 appearances for Bayern across all competitions. Once confirmed, he will be Spurs' third signing of the transfer window, following in the footsteps of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsy and defender Kevin Danso. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also trying to revive their deal to sign Axel Disasi from Chelsea, Mail Sport understands.

Ange Postecoglou's side have already welcome one defender - Kevin Danso - through their doors during the window but are still pursuing a deal for Disasi. Mail Sport revealed earlier in the week that Tottenham were out of the running to sign Disasi - despite agreeing a loan deal with their London rivals. The player had previously rejected a move to north London which caused the move to collapse. However, Spurs have not given up hope in bringing in the Frenchman.
