Donald Trump will be a guest of honor of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson at Super Bowl LIX Sunday. The 78-year-old is expected to become the the first-sitting president to attend the Super Bowl when he watches the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles. And it has now been revealed that the president will make history alongside Benson, Front Office Sports reported. The 78-yer-old businesswoman, who became the principal owner of the NFL franchise in 2018 following her husband's death, will host Trump as a special guest for the Big Game at Caesars Superdome - the home of her New Orleans Saints.
Benson is known to be Republican leaning with previous donations to particular political campaigns. However, it is unknown how she voted in last November's presidential election. The news of her invitation to Trump comes just one day after the sex-abuse scandal engulfing the Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans again encroached on the NFL's Saints. President Donald Trump will reportedly attend Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans this weekend.
The president will be a guest of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson in the Big Easy. As reported by The Associated Press, more than 300 internal emails have now shed light on the Saints' role in protecting the local Archdiocese , which allegedly protected suspects credibly accused of abusing children. Specifically, devout Catholic Benson is seen offering up the team's senior vice president of communications to the local Archdiocese to help navigate the scandal in 2018.
The emails obtained by AP sharply undercut assurances the Saints gave fans about the public relations guidance five years ago when they asserted they had provided only 'minimal' assistance to the church. The team went to court to keep its internal emails secret. Trump's attendance is expected to have an impact on security in New Orleans. While the Big Easy isn't new to hosting big football events, the city was rocked by the New Year's Eve terror attack on Bourbon Street.
'Extensive planning and coordination have been in place to ensure the safety of all attendees, players, and staff,' Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement, via Front Office Sports. 'Security measures have been further enhanced this year, given that this will be the first time a sitting President of the United States will attend the event.'. Trump, who attended college football games between Alabama and Georgia, and Navy versus Army this past season, is also set to record an interview with Bret Baier of Fox News, which will air during pregame coverage.
In 2022, George H. W. Bush - at the time a former president and father of the sitting commander-in-chief, George W. Bush - took part in the coin toss before the Patriots beat the Rams 20-17. The 78-year-old attended the Army-Navy football game in December with JD Vance. The NF's Big Game will be held at Caesars Superdome - the home of Benson's Saints. It will likely set up a battle in the stands at the Superdome for television airtime between Trump and Taylor Swift , who is expected to be there to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce .
When Trump went to New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the NFL season, fans were dismayed that he was only shown on television once compared to how often Swift is shown at Chiefs games. Swift publicly backed Kamala Harris at the last election but Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick, endorsed Trump. Mahomes himself didn't reveal who he voted for but his mom Randi also publicly backed Trump.
He was also endorsed by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and long snapper James Winchester before the election in November. And President Trump congratulated the Chiefs for making the Super Bowl after their January victory over the Buffalo Bills. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said: 'Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs . What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers.
