Richard Osman has revealed he was rushed to hospital with kidney stones after waking up in the worst pain he’s ever experienced. Speaking on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast with Marina Hyde, the Thursday Murder Club author said it was the ‘single most painful thing that’s ever happened’ to him. ‘I’ve had quite the week of it. I woke up the other night in pain and I had a kidney stone,’ he said.

‘It is the single most painful thing that has ever happened to me. The doctors kept saying it’s more painful than childhood but I’m not sure I can buy that. ‘It was unbelievably painful but thank you to everyone at Charing Cross Hospital who were so great. I was having liquid morphine and it didn’t touch the sides. ‘Then I had an operation and they took it out. So I have the absolute joy of not being in pain.’.

Richard also revealed he was in the hospital bed next to someone called Osman, and he thought: ‘This is the start of a novel!’. He was advised to drink more water to avoid the condition, and Richard reflected that it was a ‘delight’ not to be in pain anymore. However, he joked: ‘If at any point I pass out it’s because I’ve been on a lot of morphine and anesthetic in the last 24 hours.’.

While small kidney stones may pass without any discomfort through urine, larger ones can be a problem. They can cause several symptoms, including:. You should seek urgent medical help if you are in severe pain, have a high temperature, are shaking or shivering, or have blood in your urine. Kidney stones can happen when waste products in the blood form crystals that collect in the kidneys. Over time they may build up and form a stone-like lump.

While it’s a common condition – with 1 in 10 people affected by them – kidney stones are more likely to occur in people who do not drink enough fluids, are on certain medications, or have a medical condition that raises levels of substances in their urine. This hospital stint comes at an exciting time for Richard, whose debut novel The Thursday Murder Club is hitting Netflix with an absolutely stellar cast under the direction of Steven Spielberg.

Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrieare slated to play the four members of their retirement community’s amateur detective club – the novel’s titular organisation. Osman also revealed that David Tennant – in an undisclosed role – and Jonathan Pryce had been added to the cast. The former Pointless co-host confirmed Game of Thrones star Pryce would play Elizabeth’s husband, while Naomi Ackie had been cast as police officer Donna de Freitas.

While a release date hasn’t been confirmed, the TV adaptation of the murder mystery is going to hit cinemas sometime in 2025 ahead of being added to the streamer. Got a story?.
