Model Sadie Frost has revealed the details of her last call with Marianne Faithfull. The late singer and actress died on January 30, a spokesperson announced in a moving tribute. In a statement, they said: "It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed.".

Marianne was best known for her hit including As Tears Go By, written by The Rolling Stones legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. She also appeared in movies, including The Girl on a Motorcycle. Following her death, aged 78, a string of tributes have poured from the likes of her ex-partner, Mick Jagger and now her friend, Sadie. Taking to Instagram, Sadie shared details about how she was speaking to Marianne just days ago and the pair had made plans to meet up. In view of her 88,000 followers on the picture-sharing platform, the 59-year-old shared a stunning snap of the late musical icon who has been hailed one of Rock and Roll's Greatest Women.

"RIP dear Marianne," she said. Sadie continued: "We had spoken recently on the phone... And sadly we had planned to meet which hadn't happened. I have lots of amazing memories of times together – love you M." Meanwhile, Nick Cave said that the "stored knowledge of a generation" had been lost following Marianne's death. In a statement shared with the PA news agency, Nick said: "A wild woman, bold, brilliant and beautiful. We have lost not just a fiercely unique talent, but the stored knowledge of a generation. Through her extraordinary, defiant and lived in voice, Marianne brought her own maverick truth to every song she sang, and every story she spoke.

"We loved her very much." In his tribute to Faithfull on Thursday night, Jagger described his late partner as "a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress" in a post on social media. The rocker wrote: "I am so saddened to hear of the death of Marianne Faithfull. She was so much part of my life for so long. She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered.".

His upload was accompanied by a picture of the pair arm in arm. Keith also shared a tribute to Marianne, saying: "My heartfelt condolences to Marianne's family. I am so sad and will miss her," alongside a snap of the pair enjoying a drink together. Bianca Jagger, who was married to Mick from 1971 until 1978, shared her own condolences online, writing on Instagram that Faithfull will be "greatly missed".

Faithfull re-invented herself in 1987 as a jazz and blues singer with the critically acclaimed Strange Weather, and in the same decade went into rehab. Her final album was an experimental collaboration with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ Australian multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, called She Walks In Beauty (2021). Recently she had enjoyed a resurgence and was said to be admired by the likes of Kate Moss and Courtney Love. In 2006, it was announced that she had made a full recovery from breast cancer. Doctors in France had diagnosed the disease in September, forcing the star to postpone her world tour.

But the cancer was found in its "earliest stages" and following surgery, she announced she would resume her tour the next year. She was quoted as saying at the time: "It has been an extraordinary experience and, in many ways, extremely positive. I didn't realise how many true friends I had. I feel so lucky and loved and thank everybody for all their good thoughts.". The breast cancer came two years after Faithfull, a former smoker, was forced to cancel her European tour after collapsing backstage at a gig. The singer was diagnosed with exhaustion and ordered to rest for three months.
