When Jennifer Bentley was just 13, she lost her father to prostate cancer. Just entering her teen years, the Liverpudlian school girl and her mother were were plunged into a state of grieving and did not have many people to turn to - until an old family friend reached out.
Raymond Andrews, at the time in his forties, was the partner of a friend of Jennifer's mother. At first, he appeared to be helping her grieve her father, but within months he confessed to 'liking her' before starting a horrific campaign of abuse and rape.
When a family member became suspicious of his behaviour, Andrews told Jennifer to lie to the police. It wasn't until 2020 that Jennifer felt strong enough to report him. In June 2024, Andrews was found guilty of two counts of rape and six counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court.
Now 24, Jennifer, has bravely waived her anonymity to help other survivors of sexual abuse. 'In February 2014, I met Mum's friend's partner, Ray,' Jennifer said. 'He seemed really nice and made an effort to speak to me. 'He told me he liked my style. At the time, I enjoyed experimenting with my look. I had dark hair, piercings and wore edgy clothes.'.
