The Six Nations gets underway for 2025 this week as one of the biggest tournaments in rugby takes centre stage once again. We could well be in for one of the most entertaining and competitive editions of this competition ever seen, with potentially four of the teams involved believing that they have a genuine chance of lifting the trophy in March.

Ireland are the back-to-back defending champions for the third time, having followed up their memorable 2023 Grand Slam with a 16th title last year. Another epic battle with fancied France should be on the cards, with Les Bleus boosted by the return of superstar captain Antoine Dupont after he missed the 2024 Six Nations preparing to lead his country to rugby sevens gold in their home Olympic Games in Paris.

Fabien Galthie’s side begin as the favourites to win only a second title since 2010 with Dupont back in the fold, while Scotland will hope to at least threaten to end their 26-year barren run despite the key absence of injured skipper Sione Tuipulotu through injury.

England are something of a wildcard under Steve Borthwick after a difficult 2024 in which they won only five of their 12 Test matches in total but ran the likes of New Zealand, South Africa and France close and ended Ireland’s dreams of back-to-back Six Nations Grand Slams at Twickenham.

Troubled Wales will be desperate to avoid a second straight wooden spoon under Warren Gatland and halt a record run of 12 successive Test losses, while Italy will be eyeing another move up the table under Gonzalo Quesada after claiming two wins last year and coming within a width of a post of stunning France.
