The transfer window may have slammed shut but Premier League clubs can still make new signings after the deadline. The January window saw Manchester City spend big money on a handful of players as Pep Guardiola sought to overhaul his squad. On the other side of Manchester, Marcus Rashford sealed a move away from Old Trafford as the England international joined Aston Villa on loan. While several headline-grabbing deals occurred during the window, clubs will still be looking to improve their squads after deadline day. Fulham are close to re-signing veteran winger Willian after the 36-year-old cancelled his Olympiacos contract to reunite with the west London club.
There are plenty of other familiar names still searching for their next club. Mirror Football takes a look at the free agents who could still secure a Premier League move. The iconic Real Madrid left-back has been a free agent since leaving boyhood club Fluminense in November. The five-time Champions League winner made 17 appearances this season before leaving by mutual consent. At 36, Marcelo may not have the pace to succeed as a Premier League full-back but could bring valuable experience to Tottenham or West Ham as part of a back three. Meanwhile, his long-time Real Madrid team-mate Sergio Ramos is closing in on a move to Mexican club Monterrey.
Amartey has top-flight experience with Leicester City and only turned 30 in December. The Ghana international spent more than six years with the Foxes and joined Besiktas when Leicester were relegated in 2023. While he would not provide as much star quality as Marcelo, both Wolves and Leicester failed to finalise a swap deal involving Conor Coady and Craig Dawson before the window closed and may want defensive cover. With more than 100 Premier League appearances, Amartey would be a decent emergency option for clubs fighting for top-flight survival.
The right-back is best remembered for his stint at Spurs but proved to be a fan favourite during his short spell at newly-promoted Nottingham Forest. Aurier, 32, left the club to join Galatasaray at this time last year but has been a free agent since the summer. Everton need cover at right-back, having fielded Jake O’Brien as a makeshift full-back in recent weeks. O’Brien has been preferred to Nathan Patterson, while Seamus Coleman is still sidelined through injury.
A World-Cup-winning defensive midfielder should be in high demand. Kramer, 32, left Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, having spent more than a decade with the club throughout his career. Ipswich have attempted to rejuvenate Kalvin Phillips ’ career at Portman Road but Kieran McKenna could take another gamble on Kramer as his side scrap for Premier League survival. Players with a creative spark are often snapped up quickly, so clubs may have to dig a little deeper to find an unexpected bargain. Having come through Barcelona's academy, Rafinha spent two years with PSG before joining Qatari side Al-Arabi in 2022.
The former Brazil international, 31, had a decent goals and assists return during his two-year spell and could still have something to offer in a top European league. Rafinha could provide Wolves with another attacking option as they look to beat the drop. A no-brainer transfer for Fulham. Manager Marco Silva was keen to bolster his wide options in the January window and will be able to call upon a player he already trusts to do the job.
Willian spent two years at Craven Cottage and somewhat rebuilt his reputation after a disastrous spell at Arsenal. The two-time Premier League winner is joining a Fulham side fighting for a European spot and will offer backup to Alex Iwobi on the left.
