January might sound like the most depressing time to abstain from alcohol, but nevertheless: every year, millions of people swear off it entirely in the name of starting off the New Year the right way. Gen Z is already one of the cleanest-living generations in memory. In 2021, it was revealed that 38 per cent of 16 to 24 year olds and 21 per cent of 25 to 34 year olds either don’t drink or hadn’t drunk in the past 12 months. Throw in the increasing number of celebs – Tom Holland, Rihanna, Bella Hadid – who are giving up the bottle for good in the name of their mental and physical health, and what you have is a wellness trend that is becoming increasingly, well, trendy.
