With fans gripped by the new series of The Traitors, contestant Jake has been praised by viewers after he candidly spoke out about his "struggle" with cerebral palsy. The 28-year-old is one of the Faithfuls left on the murder mystery gameshow, which sees contestants try to sniff out the indentity of the Traitors amongst them. But Barrow-in-Furness native Jake has been honest about his disability, leaving fans rooting for him to win the BBC gameshow, fronted by presenter Claudia Winkleman.
Project manager Jake has remained a strong contestant throughout, being the first to out Linda rands as a Traitor – noticing odd behaviour from the star moments into the first roundtable. And speaking on Friday night's episode, he revealed he lives with cerebral palsy, as he took part in a challenge that saw them take heavy stone statues up and down the grounds of the castle.
The condition is the name of a group of movement disorders, which usually start to appear in early childhood. Although symptoms can vary, they include weakness and stiffness of the muscles, poor co-ordination and tremors. Those diagnosed may also have problems with sensation, speech, vision and hearing.
In a chat with fellow Faithful, Alexander Dragonetti, Jake admitted he found the challenge difficult, and that gripping the objects was hard for him, rather than how heavy they were. Jake explained: "I’ve got cerebral palsy, so it wasn’t the weight, it was the grip. I basically just carried it with one hand. So I was born with cerebral palsy, which affects my right arm and right leg.".
