Have I Got News For You star, Tony Slattery, predicted his death five years before his tragic heart attack. The much-loved comic's partner, Michael Mark Hutchinson, announced that the star had died today, aged 65, sharing a statement saying: “It is with great sadness we must announce actor and comedian Tony Slattery, aged 65, has passed away today, Tuesday morning, following a heart attack on Sunday evening.”.

Tony spoke candidly about his final days in an interview back in 2019. Despite opening up about his heartbreaking childhood abuse and bipolar disorder, he was determined to make it to his 60th birthday, which was just a few months after the interview was published.

Musing about meet his maker while talking to The Guardian, he smiled and said he just hoped to make it to the milestone, before adding, poignantly: “A lot can happen between now and then.". After reaching 60, Tony bravely discussed his childhood abuse, battle with bipolar disorder and addiction in a BBC mental health film, What's The Matter With Tony Slattery?.

In April 2019, the star revealed he had been abused aged eight by a priest and gives harrowing details of his childhood torment in the film - which explores the link between mental health and childhood abuse. Reflecting on the torment, Tony admitted he felt "embarrassed" that "this terrible thing still weighs and presses down", asking: "Please, why, after all this time, why?".

In 2020, Tony – who regularly spoke openly about his bipolar disorder – revealed he went bankrupt following a battle with substance abuse and mental health issues. He told the Radio Times that his “fiscal illiteracy and general innumeracy” as well as his “misplaced trust in people” had also contributed to his money problems.
