Dejan Kulusevski has launched an unequivocal defence of Ange Postecoglou and says Tottenham’s poor form is down to bigger factors than the Australian or his players. Postecoglou is under pressure with Spurs down in 15th in the Premier League after a run of one win in 11 top-flight matches, though they will reach the Europa League knockouts with a victory over IF Elfsborg on Thursday and are still in both domestic cups.

Postecoglou's squad has been decimated by injuries this winter and Spurs were without 11 senior players for Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Leicester. The club, though, is yet to sign a senior outfield player this month, in spite of Postecoglou's repeated calls for help for his stretched and depleted squad.

Kulusevski described the situation as “not OK” but shares his manager's conviction that Spurs can still make a success of this season. “I agree with [Postecoglou],” Kulusevski said. “We’re doing really well in the cups, so it’s easy to focus on [the] league but we’re doing really well in the cups.

“This [Elfsborg] is an important game and if we win we go to the next round so I think we can do good things in these last four months. “We had games when we showed perfect football, football that not many teams can play in the world. We played beautiful games against [Manchester] United, against [Manchester] City 4-0 so I think [Postecoglou] is the right man.

“We play for him. We want to win for him and to be honest we have similar ideas. I am very positive as a guy and I always want to play that football he wants. I have to fight for him because I believe in that football too. Yes, I think he’s the right man.".
