Tottenham full back Pedro Porro insists the entire dressing room remains united behind head coach Ange Postecoglou despite a horrible run of form that leaves them 15th in the Premier League table and with the Australian’s position appearing to be in increasing doubt.

Spurs travel to Hoffenheim this evening for a UEFA Europa League clash in which they must get a result to bypass February’s two-legged play-off round. But they remain without a host of key players, which Postecoglou has consistently said is to blame for an alarming downturn in form that has seen just five points accumulated from the past 30 available in the league.

And Porro believes the absentees are also the primary reason behind Spurs’ struggles while they continue to battle in four competitions. The Spain international was relegated from La Liga with Girona in 2018-19 so can appreciate how difficult things can be at a club when things are going badly. He can also understand the criticism of supporters - because the squad themselves are unhappy with their performances.

Porro said: "Two years [before I arrived at Spurs], in Spain we were relegated with Girona, this was a bad moment, but now here it's not only the fans [criticising], it's us because we're self-critical. "No excuses but you have now the reality that there are 11, 12, 13 players [fit to play] for four competitions. I think only one other team in England ( Liverpool ) is in four competitions.
