Tottenham preparations for Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Hoffenheim were disrupted when fireworks were set off outside their hotel at 2am. Mail Sport understands a series of loud explosions, which went on for around five minutes, awoke many of the travelling party at the complex around 30 minutes outside the village in Germany’s south-west on Thursday morning.
While a small number of the group remained asleep, the majority saw their slumber disturbed by the antics, which are becoming increasingly commonplace before European matches abroad, according to insiders. Ange Postecoglou’s side face their hosts knowing victory would significantly boost their chances of a top-eight finish and automatic qualification.
It would also mean they swerve a two-legged knockout tie in February, which may well prove valuable given an injury crisis that defies belief. While perhaps a minor irritant, the disruption adds to an-already tough situation for Tottenham.
