Town terrorised by phantom banana peeler: Locals split hairs after perfectly prepared fruit mysteriously appears on street every month for over a year

A plate of peeled bananas has appeared on the corner of a quiet street in Nottinghamshire once a month for over a year - but no one knows why. Residents in the commuter town of Beeston have noticed up to 20 bananas delicately placed on the corner of Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue.
Like clockwork, they are left on a pale blue plate on the second day of every month - with the mystery going back over a year. 'I've asked around in the local community but no one really knows and no-one can tell me anything,' said baffled resident Clare Short.
'The bananas appear early in the morning on the second of the month, I see them on my way to work. I'd love to know the answers to this.'. As locals have become frustrated with the fruit rotting slowly on their street corner, Clare decided to take matters into her own hands.
A plate of bananas appears on a street corner in Beeston on the second of every month. She printed a polite notice a-peeling for the mystery banana dropper to stop their bizarre monthly ritual. The note, which was placed next to the road signs where the bananas are left, read: 'Please, respectfully, no more bananas!!.
'The uncollected plates and rotting bananas leave such a mess!'. Despite Clare's nicely-worded notice, the plate full of bananas appeared again on January 2. While taking her sign down, Clare said that the bananas were clearly 'special' to someone. 'I've come to take the signs down because I don't really want to make it like a feud, I don't want it to become a big thing,' she said.
