It had been feared that UEFA may choose to issue a ban upon Celtic supporters after a smoke bomb was thrown on the pitch during their recent 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa.

The Scottish club had been fined earlier in the season after fans performed a pyrotechnics display during October's 7-1 loss to Dortmund.

However, UEFA have instead decided only to punish the Hoops financially on this occasion, hitting the club with a €10,000 (£8,341) fine.

A statement issued on Friday confirmed the punishment and explained it was in response to the 'lighting of fireworks' and 'throwing of objects'.
