One of the most iconic 90s horror movies is finally dropping on Netflix, just in time for a New Year’s Day scare-fest. I Know What You Did Last Summer was first released in 1997, with Jennifer Love Hewitt leading a star-studded cast alongside Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Muse Watson and Johnny Galecki.
The slasher followed a group of high school students from a small town accidentally killing a man and covering it up – before being hunted by a hook-wielding serial killer on the one-year anniversary of the attack. Ahead of the upcoming sequel – which is slated to be released in just a few months – the original flick is landing on Netflix in the US on January 1, joining some other hidden horror gems.
Although I Know What You Did Last Summer currently has a 46% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to an audience ranking of 41%, many fans have branded it an ‘underrated’ classic. Timothy M raved: ‘My absolute favorite slasher film of the 90s with an amazing cast! An absolute must see for fans of the genre.’.
Julian S agreed: ‘A guilty pleasure filled with silly writing and a few standout slasher scenes.’. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer is a fine 90s self-aware whodunnit slasher movie. The characters are fine, the cast is pretty good and the kills are solid,’ Stanny R wrote.
