Vera star hints at character's future despite ITV series axe Brenda Blethyn has shared her thoughts on the final series of Vera, hinting that her character DCI Vera Stanhope will continue to solve crimes even after the show concludes.
Reflecting on the filming process and the final scenes, Brenda revealed: "It was very appropriate that the last day of filming was scheduled to take place in the police incident room where so much of the drama has happened.
Brenda also shared how she took the opportunity to express her thanks to everyone involved in the series, recalling: "There were a lot of people behind the cameras and at the end I thanked everybody.
Although fans are disheartened by the news and are clamouring for a spin-off featuring DS Aiden Healy or DI Joe Ashworth, Brenda has reassured them that Vera's legacy will live on.
Brenda is departing from her role after the upcoming series, which premieres on January 1, to spend more time with her family.
