CHER Lloyd appears to have taken a swipe at X Factor boss Simon Cowell in her new single after slamming the level of "control" over her music. The popstar - often hailed an ITV show icon for her unique rendition of Turn My Swag On during her audition - finished fourth on the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010.

Malvern-born songstress Cher was then quickly signed to Simon's Syco Music and hit the ground running with her debut single Swagger Jagger, which reached the number one spot in the UK charts in July 2011. Yet just two years later, Cher revealed she had parted ways with Simon's company and hit out at the music mogul, saying she couldn’t handle the level of "control.".

Now she has allegedly laid her feelings bare in brand new track Head Down. The With Ur Love songstress - who released her new material eight days ago - can be heard singing the lyrics: "You sold me the dream, I was just seventeen. Chewed me up, spit me out.".

The Oath vocalist - who saw rocketing fame in America thanks to duets with stars including Becky G - was just 17 when she auditioned for the reality TV show. Cher added in the song: "All the tears I cried, you wasted my time and I still pay the price, I used to play your game and nothin' seems to change.".

Previously, the mum of two took to TikTok to talk about her new release, which comes ahead of her performance at the Mighty Hoopla Festival this summer. She said: "I wrote this song about when it feels like you're the only one when it feels like you've hit a brick wall.
