We take a look at the very best VR games you can play on your Meta, PSVR, and HTC headsets before the year comes to a close. It can often seem like the realm of VR games has the world (and industry) working against it. Despite the launch of new hardware this year in the form of the cheaper, more affordable Meta Quest 3S, the release schedule for tentpole VR game releases these days is… staggered, to say the least. That said, when it comes to immersing yourself in a video game world like never before, rarely will you find a better way to do so. Getting up close and personal with the worlds of Assassin’s Creed, Batman, and others in VR is still a special experience for the developers who still support the platform – of which there were many this year.

The following is a list of the 10 best VR games you can play right now, inclusive of titles that both came out in 2024 as well as those released up until this point. From mesmerising rhythm games that help you work up a sweat to first-person adventures that let you step into the boots of your favourite superhero, if you have a VR headset these are the titles you should absolutely play.

Easily one of 2024’s biggest VR surprises was the utterly excellent Batman: Arkham Shadow, a wildly effective and immersive take on DC’s famous Dark Knight that serves as a near perfect translation of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham trilogy. It’s a full-fledged adaptation complete with satisfying counter-based melee combat, objective-based investigations, and the ability to stalk your thugs like prey using the franchise’s classic brand of predator stealth. All this would have been enough to make Batman: Arkham Shadow the premiere way to play Batman, but it’s also topped off by Roger Craig Smith’s brilliant returning performance as the titular caped crusader.
