Horror vid shows Russian & Ukrainian soldiers in knife fight to the death as defeated warrior tells foe ‘you were best’

HORRIFYING footage of a bloody knife fight between two soldiers on Ukraine's frontline shows the moment one lay dying on the ground, praising his rival. The graphic footage highlights the stark brutality of war and hand-to-hand combat as the Ukrainian and Russian soldiers slashed at each other before showing mutual respect.

The Russian soldier - from the Yakutia region of Siberia - won the rare knife fight in the ruins of a blitzed building which was all captured on the helmet camera of the Ukrainian. As the unidentified Ukrainian pleaded with his enemy to let him die alone, he saluted his Russian foe, saying: "I want to die myself. Thank you. You were the best fighter in the world.

"Goodbye, you were better.". The Russian fighter named Tuta - also wounded in the fight - backs off and tells him: "Goodbye.". The footage begins with both soldiers shooting at each other at close range. It quickly became a fierce knife fight when Tuta pulled a blade on his opponent.

The hand-to-hand combat starkly contrasts many scenes from a hi-tech war featuring deadly hypersonic and precision missiles. The defending Ukrainian could be seen grabbing the barrel of the Russian's automatic rifle leading to a struggle in which Tuta pulled his knife and stabbed his taller foe in the thigh.
