Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has given an update on her plans to have a family as she approaches the two-year anniversary of her cancer diagnosis. The professional dancer, 34, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, dropping out of that year's series of Strictly to recover. In February last year, Amy announced that her health check showed "no evidence of disease" and later turned to the BBC One show.

Stopping by Loose Women with co-star Carlos Gu, Amy was asked about her plans to have kids with husband Ben Jones after being placed into a medically induced menopause and freezing her eggs before undergoing chemotherapy. "Where are you at in that journey because now you've just finally got your strength back in your body but where does that sit in your mind space and in your heart space?" panellist Ayda Field asked.

Amy replied: "So at the moment it would be too soon. I I had a hormone-fed cancer, so I have been put into early menopause and it would be too dangerous now to consider it. "But I really want to be a mum, I've always wanted to be a mum. We do have five embryos, and I hope one day, if it's safe to do so, I do get the privilege and honour to be someone's mum.". The audience launched into a round of applause as Ruth Langsford told her: "You've achieved so much, you're such an inspiration to everybody.".

Amy is currently back on the Strictly Come Dancing tour after her Strictly journey was cut short this year due to a foot injury just weeks into her post-cancer return. She was partnered with JLS star JB Gill on the BBC show before being replaced by Lauren Oakley after withdrawing from the competition. Now on the tour, Amy is part of the show's first ever "throuple", with JB being partnered with both Amy and Lauren. In an Instagram post earlier this month, Amy poked fun at the arrangement, captioning a clip of the trio: "POV you're in the first ever tour throuple and your partners are trying to convince you to dance with them on tour.".

Earlier this month, Amy took a moment to acknowledge World Cancer Day on social media, writing in a post: "WORLD CANCER DAY. supporting those living with cancer, those supporting their loved one's affected by cancer, admiring the survivors, honouring those we have lost, and never, ever GIVING UP. Loose Women airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX. Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTubeand Threads.
