A popular iPhone model has been discontinued after Apple announced their newest model. The tech giant unveiled the iPhone 16e earlier this week – a cheaper option to the newest iPhone 16 range. But as one new phone entered Apple’s lineup, two others left – the iPhone SE and the iPhone 14.

Apple reported modestly higher quarterly profits August 3 despite another dip in revenues, as a record performance in services offset lower iPhone sales. Profits for Apple's third fiscal quarter were $19.9 billion, up 2.3 percent from the year-ago period. Revenues again declined, this time by 1.4 percent. Apple’s official website no longer shows the two models as options, instead focusing on models from iPhone 15 upwards. Before they were removed from the website, the iPhone 14 was one of the more budget-friendly options, coming in at around £500. But the newer iPhone 16e has a £599 price tag for the 128GB model.

For one, the iPhone 16e does not feature a home button or Touch ID, all but phasing out the way of unlocking your iPhone. Instead, users will open the phone using a facial recognition system, Face ID, which has been around since 2017. Apple says Face ID is more secure than Touch ID because there are fewer chances of a mismatch.
The 16e also has an aluminium frame with either white or black glass covering the back and a 6.1-inch screen, so the same size as the 16. An action button – just above the volume buttons where the ring/silent switch used to be – will let people quickly launch apps.
In other Apple-related news, a new pornography app was made available to all iPhones in the EU after a rule change. AltStore PAL, which is an alternative to Apple’s App Store, is now free to access because of newly introduced European competition laws.
This meant users can download the adult content browser Hot Tub, which they have dubbed ‘the world’s first Apple-approved porn app’ – despite the App Store not allowing porn. Apple rejected that description and hit back at AltStore, saying it would never allow such an app on its own App Store.
