A woman suspected of killing three family members by feeding them a poisoned Christmas cake may be linked to at least ten other poisonings – including her dad’s death in 2020 and an attempt to kill her own husband. Deise Moura, 39, is accused of murdering three relatives and trying to kill another three after serving the festive treat during a family Christmas party at her mother-in-law Zeli's home on December 23. Brazilian cops later revealed an initial analysis of Deise Moura's phone showed "internet searches, including on Google Shopping, for the word arsenic and other similar ones.".
The cake claimed the lives of Zeli’s sisters Maida, 58, and Neuza, 65, as well as Neuza’s daughter, 43-year-old Tatiana - but authorities now believe the bitter daughter-in-law is behind several more poisonings. Just days before the fatal cake incident, Moura reportedly poisoned her own husband, Diego dos Anjos, by serving him arsenic-laced juice, according to Brazilian news outlet Band. Realising their son had also consumed the toxic drink, she quickly forced him to vomit the liquit out, while Diego was left seriously ill. Both are now due to undergo forensic examinations.
Police are probing at least 10 potential poisonings linked to Moura – with her father-in-law and dad's death in 2020 among the suspected murders and attempts. A post-mortem examination revealed Moura’s father-in-law, Paulo Luiz dos Anjos, who died suddenly, had also ingested arsenic. His death was initially dismissed as food poisoning, but fresh evidence suggests otherwise.
