BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent interrupted Monday's programme to bring urgent travel and weather updates. In the latest edition, 53-year-old Sally flagged up snow-induced travel chaos as she revealed that Manchester Airport had to put a temporary halt on its runways due to heavy snow.

Her co-presenter Jon Kay chimed in: "That winter weather still causing problems this morning, Sally" to which she echoed: "Absolutely right, Jon! Further snow, ice and rain are causing more disruption across the UK this morning.". It was then that viewers saw a breaking news ticker pop up on their screens, leading Sally to declare: "Manchester Airport says it has shut both of its runways for the second time in two days because of heavy snow in the area.".

Taking to Twitter, now X, on Monday morning, Manchester Airport provided an update for travellers. The post stated: "Our runways are temporarily closed due to heavy snow as our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible", reports the Express.

Continuing, they added: "The safety of our passengers is our top priority and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra travel time today. We will update you as soon as possible. Thank you.".

Following up at 7:15am, Manchester Airport informed: "Our runways are now open but as a result of the earlier closure some departures and arrivals may still experience delays. "Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra time for your journey today. We would like to thank our teams for their hard work in getting the runways operational again. The safety of our customers remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and patience.".
