The BRIT Awards 2025 with Mastercard has announced the winner of the Songwriter of the Year Award. After an incredible year in music, this year’s most nominated artist Charli xcx has won the coveted songwriter award. Charli, 30, is nominated for five BRIT awards, the highest number of any artist this year, for the categories of Artist of the Year, Mastercard Album of the Year, Song of the Year with Mastercard, Dance Act and Pop Act.

The BRITs Songwriter of the Year award, recognising exceptional songwriting talent, is decided by a select panel of expert judges, with previous recipients including Ed Sheeran, Kid Harpoon, and RAYE, who won the prestigious award during the 2024 ceremony.

Damian Christian, Managing Director and President of Promotions at Atlantic Records (part of Warner Music UK) and Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2025 said of Charli's win: "Charli has had an undeniable year, taking her experimental brand of electronic and pop from underground raves to the heart of mainstream culture.

"Charli's songwriting is distinctive, bold and relentlessly innovative, and, having been one of the UK's leading songwriters for a number of years now, has taken her craft to new heights with her global phenomenon Brat. I'm delighted she has been recognised for this much deserved award.".

Electronic superstar Charli released her sixth studio album ‘BRAT’ last June which stands as the most critically acclaimed album of last year and landed at Number 1 on the UK Official Album Chart in October. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2024 while ‘Guess featuring Billie Eilish’ debuted at Number 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart, making Charli the first British artist to land at the top of the charts last year.

In addition, Charli was honoured with the Visionary Award at the 2023 Ivor Novellos in London, while she also received the Powerhouse Award at Billboard’s Women In Music ceremony last March, the ASCAP Global Impact Award last May and Wall Street Journal’s Music Innovator Award last October.

Despite Charli's well-deserved win, some music fans have claimed that another nominee was 'robbed' of the coveted award. Having just released his third studio album, People Watching, fans of Sam Fender have insisted that the award should have gone to him as his new album shot straight to the top of the charts and is already on the way to becoming his most successful record yet.

This year’s BRIT Awards promises another unbeatable evening of live music and entertainment with Jack Whitehall at the helm for the fifth time to take viewers at home and those in the arena audience through a jam-packed schedule of live performances from JADE, Lola Young, Myles Smith, Sabrina Carpenter - who will be honoured with BRITs Global Success**, Sam Fender, Teddy Swims and The Last Dinner Party along with awards presentations and other memorable moments.
