Luca Toolan has received praise from his real-life dad following his powerful final scenes on Coronation Street as Mason Ratcliffe. Mason, as viewers know, tragically died on Monday (January 6) when he was stabbed by brothers Matty and Logan during a scuffle at the precinct.
The scenes in question were met with acclaim from viewers, with star Luca in particular receiving praise for his powerhouse performance. Among those dishing out the praise was none other than Luca’s dad Mike, who hosts the Hits Radio drivetime show with former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson.
Sharing a number of pictures of Luca as Mason, Mike wrote on Instagram: ‘What a journey. Unbelievably proud. Well done, mate.’. Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Abi Webster on the ITV serial, was quick to comment on Mike’s post, writing: ‘A brilliant performance and such a lil beaut.’.

The actress played a key role in Luca’s final episode, with Abi finding Mason in the aftermath of the stabbing. She swiftly notified the ambulance and stayed with the teen during his final moments, coming with him in the ambulance.
Luca previously explained that he found out Mason would be killed off in the harrowing plot back in February/March last year, and initially felt ‘a mixture of emotions’. He said: ‘I was sad that Mason was going to die and that means I would be leaving, but equally I was really excited and honoured to be part of this storyline because it’s an incredibly important issue that needs to be tackled.
