It looks as though newcomer DI Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) has a tough journey ahead of him as he's set to join the Saint Marie police force. At the end of last year, BBC viewers saw actor Don Gilet make his debut on the long-running show, stepping into Ralf Little's detective boots. However, his arrival didn't go down well as he made his feelings about island life clear.
Although the new DI was determined to get back to London, it seems he won't be going too far as he's going to be the new detective in the upcoming series. Speaking about the newcomer, actress Shantol Jackson, who plays DS Naomi Thomas, didn't hold back in sharing how her character feels about DI Mervin.
When asked what Naomi's first impressions of him was, she replied: "Rude, insensitive and impatient! During the Christmas special, Naomi and Darlene want Mervin to leave but they understand that the team need a Detective Inspector. "He complains about the island a lot and is offensive, and that doesn’t sit well with her or Darlene! She makes these feelings known to him, but she does realise that he is very capable and intuitive.".
Although he seemed to rustle a few feathers on the island, viewers enjoyed his no-nonsense attitude and found his blunt demeanour hilarious. Sharing their thoughts on the newcomer, one person said: "Well, I like the new detective. Yes, he's rude, but he's also interesting.".
