Homeless people living in emergency shelters are being forced to sleep on the streets in freezing temperatures for three weeks this Christmas - because workers who change chemical toilets are on holiday. Residents living in the tiny pods in a council car park were told they must leave by December 18 until the new year because workers wouldn't be available for routine maintenance.

Busker Kebba 'Kenny' Sarge, 54, who has been homeless for 11 years said he's facing a lonely Christmas sleeping in a tent in a park. He said: 'They just said they don't have enough staff. I know everybody wants Christmas off but I feel let down by the council.

'It's unspeakable that we are put in this spot, it's our only help and suddenly it's gone. 'People are dying on the streets but if I don't leave they will bring the police here to throw me out and they will never help me again. 'I live on the street so being put in here was good, but now I have to go and start again.'.
