This article contains spoilers about tonight’s episode of EastEnders, which is already available to stream on BBC iPlayer. EastEnders aired a surprise Easter egg for fans as Honey and Billy Mitchell (Emma Barton and Perry Fenwick) celebrated their joint stag and hen party on Wednesday. Not only did the couple receive an unannounced visit from former characters Minty Peterson and Garry Hobbs, but Billy also got video message that blurred the lines between the real world and the fictional Walford universe.

As a long-time West Ham supporter, Billy’s brother Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) arranged for him to receive a video from player Jarrod Bowen. In real life, Jarrod is engaged to reality star and former Love Island winner Dani Dyer, whose father is none other than Danny Dyer.

Of course to millions of EastEnders fans, Danny is best known for his role as former Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter on the soap. Therefore Jarrod’s appearance poses the very interesting idea that in the EastEnders universe, both Mick Carter and Danny Dyer exist. How meta. In fact, it also means that Dani exists in both worlds too, as she had a cameo role in the soap back in 2021. The 28-year-old star shared scenes with her real-life dad, playing a pregnant taxi driver called Jeanette, who drove Mick to wife Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) pregnancy scan.

Dani said of the scenes at the time: ‘I was really excited – me and my dad really work well together. We do our podcast and that’s always such a laugh, so to be acting alongside him really was fun and made it a lot easier for me.’. Dani and Jarrod have been together for four years and got engaged last summer. The are parents to their twin daughters, Summer and Star, born in 2023, while Dani also has a son, Santiago, from her relationship with her ex-boyfriend Sammy Kimmence.

Meanwhile, Danny recently ruled out reprising his role as Mick, who is still presumed dead after going missing at sea on Christmas Day 2022. Speaking to Metro last month, he said: ‘I get this [requests for a return] every day still, and it’s a very much a compliment to me. I think that people still give a f***. So look, they haven’t asked me. That’s all I can say. You know, I would have gone back for the 40th, I’ve said this many times, but they didn’t ask me to do that. I think they’ve got some other plans.
‘And so I think, because I’m not coming back for 40th I think I missed the boat – it needs to be something special, I think, for Mick to come back.’.
